November 2025 Show and Tell

Every Autumn the talented members of EVGSWD share their experiences and efforts, mainly from the past year, but not always. This year we admired one piece created some time ago but still stands the test of time and another piece started and shown last year but now completed, or is it? Will we see it again in 2026?

We may not have her with us anymore but Heather’s never far from our thoughts and we were shown a cute handmade Christmas postcard sent to her (presumably not by her) from Australia. Other pieces on the tables included dying experiments, new spinning and weaving skills just tackled, plus many wonderfully perfected skills and finished items, all inspiring us to consider new techniques, colour combinations and styles.

Probably the most fascinating work was the study of the Bayeux Tapestry and its original colours shown by Glenis, our dying expert. A PhD study if ever there was one and the resulting dyed skeins are simply lush. We have no doubt the elusive black dye recipe will be cracked!

The pleasure of this meeting each year is that every single item brought along is worthy of pride and appreciation, whether it’s a member’s first ever hand spun or the evidence of years of perfecting skills. Who isn’t charmed by Jean’s delightful hooky rug sheep and who’d have thought of crocheting a bird feeder?
