Every Autumn the talented members of EVGSWD share their experiences and efforts, mainly from the past year, but not always. This year we admired one piece created some time ago but still stands the test of time and another piece started and shown last year but now completed, or is it? Will we see it... Continue Reading →
August 2025
August's Drop Spindle workshop, run by Carrie, was very well attended. In fact there were more members in the small meeting room drop spindling than were outside in the main hall doing their own thing (some of which were also drop spindling!). A vast variety of spindles were brought along by Carrie to try and... Continue Reading →
Clasped Weft Weaving, Jan Beadle
June 2025 This month's meeting brought some of our very lucky members a visit from Jan Beadle along with 8 looms already warped up and ready to fly. And fly they did as you can see from these stunning results. What a fabulous set of colourful work was created by our impressive members, superbly guided... Continue Reading →
Finishing your knitting
April 26th 2025 found a happy handful of knitters of varying competences learning how to manage clever finishing touches to our knitted pieces, all thanks to Judith's extensive expertise (as a WI judge). We mastered mattress stitch in two ways, and knitting on a pocket as an afterthought, amongst discovering other great tips. Now we... Continue Reading →
15th February 2025 AGM
Shelagh took over the Chair following Heather’s sad death in September last year and she gave an excellent end of year report. We gladly welcomed Judith as our new Chair. Denise was voted onto the committee as she has already made sterling work with the library. Kathy too has joined and she and Debbie will... Continue Reading →
Challenge 2024, January 2025
The theme for 2024's Challenge was "Contrast" and each member was supplied with 50g each of cinnamon and teal coloured Shetland tops to do with as they wished! And as always the members disappointed absolutely no-one! A beautiful combination of handspun and knitted items, felted and woven items. What a joy!
Sue Lawty and Bhutan
October 2024 Members and visitors were treated to the new annual Betty Brame memorial talk. The inaugural year brought us the brilliant artist, tapestry weaver, designer and teacher, Sue Lawty talked about her weaving and textile experiences from many trips to the stunning, fascinating and remote country of Bhutan in the Himalaya. Sue, whose art... Continue Reading →
Mosaic Knitting with Judith
September 2024 Guild members were treated to a day of learning Mosaic (or slip stitch) knitting techniques run by our own Judith Edwards. We were given the opportunity to learn at least 14 different complex and fascinating patterns expertly presented and tutored by Judith. The day was unusually quiet (for us!) as members concentrated hard... Continue Reading →
Tapestry Weaving with Anna Weatherall
August 2024 This meeting was a particularly emotional one for our members. Heather Seddon, our Chair and inspiring and gifted member for many years stood down due to ill-health. She was presented with a bouquet and gave an uplifting farewell speech. Heather will be very much missed. Ten members were treated to a tapestry weaving... Continue Reading →
Learning to mend and darn
March 2024, it's not all spinning, weaving or dyeing! Cecilia and Graham Hewitt came along to Mungrisdale to pass on their considerable mending skills to Guild members. What a joy to learn how to darn our beautiful but worn woolly items giving them new leases of life.
